Better than take out Beef and Broccoli

A few weeks ago my best friend asked me specifically for a beef and broccoli recipe. Her Husband loves to order Chinese take out but she was looking for a healthier option to make at home. The thing about take out Chinese is the amount of MSG that usual accompanies just about anything you order. Don't get me wrong, it is SO delicious, but it can be just as delicious without all that MSG. Most of the ingredients in this recipe should be staples in your pantry (at least they are for me).

You do need a little time to let the meat marinate in this recipe so keep that in mind. Happy cooking!

Beef and Broccoli
GF/DF

Marinade Ingredients:

1/2 t baking powder
1 t sugar
1 T cornstarch
2 T GF, low sodium soy sauce
1 T cold water
1 t freshly ground ginger
2 T canola oil
about 1 1/2 pound plank steak

Sauce Ingredients:

1/2 cup GF low sodium soy sauce
1 1/2 T cooking sherry
2 T light brown sugar
4 cloves garlic
2 T GF flour
1 T freshly ground ginger
3 T canola oil
 1 pound fresh broccoli

What to do:

First lets get that marinade together so we get move on to the delicious part of dinner.

Slice your meat agains the grain in fajita style strips.

Add your baking powder, sugar, cornstarch, soy sauce, water, canola oil, and ginger to a large bowl.

Using a whisk, combine the ingredients until the sugar and cornstarch is dissolved into the liquid.

Grate in your fresh ginger.

Add your meat into the marinade. Using your hands, toss the meat until it is evenly coated with the marinade.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1- 1/2 hours to allow the meat to marinate.

A few minutes before you are ready to cook, grab your meat from the fridge and get your sauce together.

Mince your garlic.

Rinse your broccoli and cut the florets off the stems.

Add soy sauce, sherry, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and flour to a small bowl.

Stir until the flour is dissolved and the sauce thickens a bit.

Now we are ready to cook. Heat 2 T canola oil in a large skillet.

Add in your broccoli florets and sauté for 3-4 minutes.

Remove the broccoli from the skillet and set aside.

Add 1 additional tablespoon of canola oil to your skillet.

Add in your meat and 1/2 of the sauce you have prepared.

Stirring frequently, allow the meat to cook completely. About 10 minutes.
Once the meat is fully cooked, add in the remaining sauce and broccoli.

Give everything a good stir and cook for 2 additional minutes.

Serve over rice and grab a fork!

Thanks Y'all!
