Making a House a Home

Since becoming a wife, I have been trying to make our little house a home. It can prove to be difficult to "homie up" a rental house because you don't want to put too much time, money, or energy into painting walls or buying furniture for a house you know you won't be in long term. Here are a few of my easy tips to help you feel at home!

1. Fresh flowers!

You can get them anywhere and they brighten up a room in just 5 minutes. I always grab flowers while at the grocery and create simple arrangements for a few locations. My den, our bedside table, the entry hall, and of course the guest room if we have friends coming to town. These don't have to be elaborate, just think outside the box for types of flowers and different things you could use as a vase

2. Keep it clean!

A quick run of the vacuum can change the way you feel when you walk into a room (well for me at least) I love a clean room. Don't let your house become cluttered with magazines, mail and junk. If you are in a small space, these things will make it feel even smaller.

3. Light a candle!

The moment I walk into the house, I light a candle. I absolutely love walking into a friends home and smelling that wonderful scent of a burning candle. One of my favorites is Aspen Bay Candles, fire.

4. Hang those pictures!

How often do we say, oh yeah I need to get prints of those digital pictures. Stop what your doing and order them now! It is so easy, you can even do it online. Seeing pictures around the house will truly help it feel more like a home.

5. Add Pillows!

A pillow can make all the difference in a room. They are so affordable too!  On a neutral couch, add a pop of color to make a simple yet effective change. The great thing about pillows, if you move, you can put them in a totally new location (in a different chair or on a different bed) and people will think you you got something fresh and new!

6. Decorate for all holidays!

Even if its just a door hanger on your front door, decorating for the holidays makes your home so welcoming to guests and brightens your day every time you come home. I have made a door hanger for Valentine's day and even bought an Easter hanger from Etsy. This Etsy shop has lots of different door hanger options LooLeigh's Charm

7. Create an entrance

Make the first thing you see when you walk to your front door something that makes you exited to walk in! It is so simple to plant two flower pots to place on either side of your door. This small gesture makes your home warm and inviting.

8. Always have yummy smelling hand soap!

You can get good smelling hand soap anywhere. Similar to a candle, a good smelling soap can change your mood in an instant.

Thanks Y'all!
